Swamper, have you been able to isolate what time it comes on? Does it not have the noise during the day/early morning when radio is quiet? It could be as simple as yours, or a neighbors night exterior light, especially if it's flourescent. If you can find times such as the day when it is not there, chances are it has nothing to do with your antenna. Think about these questions and try to figure out what time it comes on. Is it around sunset and/or same time each night?

Swamper, we all suffer noise problems form time to time, that is the nature of wireless communications and you would just be lucky if you never noticed.

From your post it seems to rule out the antenna itself. Did it start about the time you replaced the coax or did you change the coax because of the noise?

You say you drove around with a hand held and you could not find the source. I guess that means you still had the noise, but you just could not find out where it was coming from, right? If so, then I guess raising or lowering the A99 would not help either.

Maybe you are just unlucky. The seasons are changing, so maybe your luck will too.

Swamper, I guess you know that some computers can cause inference on the CB band. Some of the ones in the 100-166-200 meg range are really bad. I've seen a 5 noise level from some of them. A loose connection on your outside transformer will also cause havoc, and will be worse in dry windy weather. As an electrican, I argued with power companys for years about this problem, finally came to this conclusion, if you tell'um its bothering a CB, they want help, if you tell'um its causing a 'white band' of interference on your TV when the wind is blowing, they will check it out. scrapiron

Funny thing, my computer is pretty close to my radio.

One day it made me so mad I killed everything in my room one at a time and found it was my router.

It puts out a high pitch tone

Swamper,
I had my Antron 99 since 1986, and a few months ago i had retired it, and replaced it with a new I-Max 2000. The new I-Max made a big difference in the static noise in my recieve, now it's very quiet. Also i used my old ground plain kit (GPK)from the 99 with the new I-Max 2000. All you have to do is put at least one inch of mast above the easy mount flange and attach the doughnut to the mast, then screw on the radials, center the radials around the mast, tighten the bolts on the doughnut, and your done. There is just enough room to do it. I did a check of the SWR before i put on the GPK it was about 1.4, and then again after putting on the GPK. My SWR is flat as a pancake thoughout the regular 40 channels, & i never touched the factory setting on the adjustable rings. You can do the same thing, and if you do, you will be a happy camper. Also make sure you have a good ground on your antenna, as static build up can cause a bunch of static in your recieve. Good luck and keep us posted. :-)
