I have a Galaxy DX959 with a Palamar Blue Lightning 150, whenever I turn the box on and key up the SWRs go to the red, but when I talk they drop back down to 1.5. What the heck has happened? |

Check for sufficient grounding of the amp and antenna mount. When you adjust the amp to medium power, does the swr go down to normal? Is the high swr situation only on "hi" power? This is common in many mass produced amps but not too big of a deal. You can play with coax length to get the swr down in high, or just run the amp in medium as it will do nearly the same power anyway. PS If you have too much carrier (dead key) power going into the amp it can do that as well. Make sure your amp has a carrier that is NO MORE than 1/3 of what it peaks. IE: Peaks 200w, carrier should be no more than 70w. Adjust the radio power accordingly to achieve this. |

I've checked the ground. I ran the amp on high, med., and low still the same. Also I've already tuned the radio down. My mike is trucker series echo power mike should I do anything to it? |

Tech 671,we tuned Gremlin's amp and radio. The dead key is set at a watt and a half and we turned th modulation wide open.We didn't cut anything inside the radio. P.s.Do you know how to unlock the clarifier on that radio? |

1. Make sure your antenna or coax isn't shorted. If you understand, anything that touches with the center conductor of the coax is "hot", that includes the antenna and the threads coming from the bottom. If anything touches ground it will show high swr especially with power. 2. Last but not least, try different jumper lengths to see if it makes a difference in the swr reading. 3. You can unlock the clarifier, but it will only slide about 2khz, I wouldn't bother. |
