Well, the good news is that the 10-meter band on this one usually tunes 11m just fine. The bad news is that it is suicidal. Really. For whatever reason, they LEFT OUT a third section in the T/R relay to turn off the tube current on standby. They tend to get hot and spontaneously go "BOOM" on standby as a result. Somewhere around here I have a link to some instructions for taking care of that little shortcoming. I think it is part of a bigger article on changing the tubes from 6MJ6 to a Russian tube. It's NOT supposed to use the 6LQ6 tube with the skinny single wire inside leading to the cap. I'll look around for the link and see if I can check back in with it over the weekend.

If your trying to key it with a 'CB' type radio, that might be the problem. You will need an external key for the relay jack on the back of the amp. Ham radios have the relay. I use a 'footpedel' switch for those type of amplifiers.

Nearly every Ham radio has a jack somewhere on the back panel to key an external amp when the mike is keyed. Since amplifiers are not legal on CB, they aren't allowed to provide this feature on a legal 40-channel CB. That's why 'CB'-type amplifiers have a built-in "keying circuit" that senses the RF power from the radio and operates the relay internally. The Radio Shack foot switch is pretty cheap. It's a little easier to buy a plug adapter to match the amp's keying socket than to cut the wire and solder a phono (RCA) male plug to it. The two other options are to install a relay (and jack) in the radio, with a patch cord from the radio 'keying jack' to the one on the amp. OR, have a CB-type keying circuit (and SSB switch) installed inside the amplifier. On price alone, the foot switch wins, hands down.

Capncrunch, your right, you will key your radio, then key the amp, about any kind of switch would work, all its doing is connecting "center to ground", however you really need a switch that will not stay "on" as it needs to be disconnected when you unkey the mike, so your receive will come back. A footswitch works best as you might run out of hands, one keying the mike, the other holding a drink, eating chips, or whatever. hehe
Something else to think about, the ham amps don't have drivers, just finals, they generally mutiply the input by 5 to 10 times. If you just put 5 or so watts in, you will just get 25 or so watts out. It probably needs 50 watts or more to get full output, which is probably about 400 watts for those 4 tubes. Swing or pep watts would be more. So, if your using a cb radio, you will have to use a small driver amp to get much output. You get all that hooked up, then you can do the mojo talk, "i just got my baby driver going, let me kick in my tubes", gettin' up, gettin' up. lol
