My Midland 79-290 shows a FM mode when toggling through the different modes (AM-USB-LSB SINCE I DID THE CHANNEL MOD.) It receives and transmits on AM though, even when the indicator shows FM. I, believe that there is simply a part of my radio disabled to be accepted by the FCC for use in our country. Since it also has the 10 meter band, I figured that it may very well have a frequency discriminator in it, but it is bypassed. Or I could be completely wrong. Any info would be appcd!! Thanx Guys, Dan |

Hmmm...Do you have "swing" on FM? If so it is most definatly on AM. If you have no swing when modulation is presented to the mic on FM , it is deviating correctly. The FM is crappy on those radios and you may hear AM on it. Rule...AM , swings with audio , FM no swing with audio (in simple terms) 307 |
