ok ive done all my galaxys and my rangers with the heavy swinger which i absolutly love...anyway i cant find any info on the emperor 5010s or the hr2510/2600s series. i really want to know if i can use the resister and dide deal with the 5010 and where i can solder it to the board. ps pictures help. anyone thanks. |

Whoops! Wrong radio. The Emperor, HR2510 and the 'Export" Jackson radio all use what is called "low-level modulation". The modulator circuit in the Galaxy and Ranger radios all use a "high-level" modulator that modulates the power going to the final and driver stages of the radio. NONE of the tricks that make these radios get up and strut apply to the "low-level" design. Have you have ever wondered why nearly ALL of the high-price multi-band HAM transceivers sound terrible on AM unless you turn the audio down enough? They all use low-level AM modulation. Hams don't care about AM, so the manufacturers spend the least money they can to include it in the radio. It's just smart marketing to spend the most manufacturing money on the features that make the radio sell best. The best "low-carrier/heavy-swing" mod I ever saw on the 5010/2510/Jackson only seemed to work on about 3 out of 4 radios. That wans't a 'commercial quality' mod, so I quit offering it. Another shortcoming it had was a particular quirk of this type radio: small changes in SWR will cause LARGE changes in the AM swing and the SSB ALC setting. Driving an amplifier would make the SSB and AM swing VERY unpredictable, unless the amplifier was very well-behaved. The 'resistor and diode deal' is a lost cause, since the circuit you add them to JUST ISN'T IN THERE. At all. Still, not a bad SSB/FM radio, anyway. 73 |

Just super glue about 2ft of string to each corner of the radio then attach the other end of the strings to the dome light in your vehicle,Turn a corner and watch it SWIIIING!;) |

the 5010 is capable of max swing from about a 3-4w carrier. find c48 near the the alc and am power pots. remove this cap and you are ready to swing. isn't a 'clean' waveform mod, but it gives you swing. this is actually in the cw chain giving negative feedback, that is active in the am mode also. removing this removes the negative feedback loop, greatly increasing 'swing'. |

i remember seeing a grandfather kit for this type of radio in a cb pamphlet somewhere. it said gramp mod for swing but where that was i have no idea. i basically just want it to key nothing then swing up. oh well...later hook if you saw how it was set up in the truck now youd be pretty close to what you wrote!!! later |

2600 you just answered another question/problem I've had over the years, and one i've noticed with these radios since the Jackson came out in the early 1980s, then with the 2510 a few years later. First, I could never get the low key swing I wanted, and the mobile installation with an amplifier was a major headache. You can set them up in a shop, then everything changes in the mobile. Then after it was setup in the mobile, a 2 watt key might change to a 5-6 watt key with 20-30 channel move in frequency. The modulation went to hell, and pretty soon you would start popping pills. I finally decided the only safe/good way was install an external RF power on the radio, and run a wattmeter in the mobile, which is a good idea anyway. The same holds true for all the nice HF rigs I have tried to run on AM, its a constant radio check to see if the modulation is ok. hey scrap, they got the posts out of order here. look at what i posted above. it works for the 2510,2600, and lincoln also. the 'stability' stays the same with this modification. you won't get max swing from a 1-2w carrier, but it will be -much- more than from a standard 'twist amc wideopen' tune. i'm not a huge fan of it for the fact that it isn't clean at all, but i do use it for my 'swing junkies'. |

Thanks 8541, I'll give that a try. I'm like you not a big fan for the 'max swing' thing, however some people are. Radios can be loud without showing big swing. I have a 2510 now that I will sell before long, and who ever buys it might want a big swinger. |

i must say i can not find c 48 on the board at all!! i have one that looks like c148 but the lettering runs thru a hole so i can not tell. its near the ssb closer to the metal board. |
