Ok 307, I found R189 on board, ther's no resister in the holes, just a blue wire that's in one the R189 holes. The blue wire leads to a small PC board on left side of radio, I assume this is a echoe board or something. I clipped it and still have the talk back feature. So I went ahead and spliced blue wire back together. Am I missing something???? Any input from you or any forum members familiar with Galaxy 88's. I'm running a RK56 mic. When a little over half turned on mic gain, it's starts squealing pretty good....With the D-104 lollipop, foreget about it.....Thanks all........... |

Thanks 307, You still the man......Hey is that board on my 88 the same as my Saturn????. Also I plan to run this 88 in my pickup with a Texas Star DX400v if I ever get it back from Copper....Going on 6 weeks now, sent back cause defective......Anyways, I'm wondering about SSB drive on amp. This 88 is doing around 30 to 35w on SSB. Is that to much for DX400?????. AM is about 4 watts and swinging to around 32w..... One other note, This NPC\RC mod everybody is talking about. I realize it's Negative Peak Compression. Is this mod good on this radio??? If so, how do I do it??????? Thanks 307..... |

That power level is ok for a 400 on SSB Only. Am it should only swing about 15 watts to sound the best. As for the TB on the 88 , I think you cut the right wire. I am confused as to how you still have TB other than someone may have added the super TB mod. If they did it is a capacitor that is added near the Audio IC on the solder side of the main board. Truckers have this mod done to make TB louder...Go figure???? I guess they get off hearing them selves...Look to see if that capacitor (added) is there near tha Audio IC on the bottom of the board... 307 |

Also look to see if D80 has been clipped or removed. Replace or resolder it then clip your blue wire again. |

Thanks Capncrunch, That was first thing I did was disconnect blue wire, but it didn't work. Hey 307, I found D80 wich was cut and sticking strait up on banded end of diode. I resoldered it and resnipped blue wire and know it's dead, no RX, TX is fine. What is the value of the D80 diode?. I checked it with my VOM. Had black lead on banded end and and red on other end. It read 871 on my VOM. When reversed the leads it was 0000. While were on subject on Galaxy 88, I do have a bad humm in freq counter. I read one of your earlier posts on the repair. What volt 330uF axial lead capacitor do I use??? Thanks guys.. |

Well guys, I've been tinkerin' around with the 88. I went ahead and replaced the 1N4148 diode in D80. I didn't have to clip blue wire though. Finally got talk back to stop. When I turn the echo knob on, then it has the talk back feature....Thanks for all the help out there. You too Tech181 for helping me out via Email. Also ran 330uF axial lead cap parallel with the 100uF 16v cap in front of IC8. Just like you said Tech 307 in a earlier post. Turned radio on, and the obnoxious BUZZZZ is now gone.......You still DA Man.........Thanks again 73's..... |
