Thats an AC hum coming from your power supply. What type of power supply is it?

do you have the have the hum on another power supply?try another one and even in your vehicle.I bought a power supply from radio shack one day because it was sunday and every one else was closed.BIG mistake.my radio sounded like a bunch of bees had made a home out of it.took it back the next day and bought a pyramid and a tripplite so I would always have a back up

A friend of mine who passed on last year, 2yrs. before bought a 10 amp regulated power supply AND radio AND antenna from Radio Shack,no problems, his radio sounded great both rx/tx.Like I said when you buy from a dealer they can put the R.S. name on any junk,if they're unscrupulous, but a franchise is closely regulated by parent company and can only sell company products or lose their franchise. So far that's about the tenth time you've put down Radio Shack,BUT opinions are like elbows everybodies got AT LEAST two of them.

He may have meant that he bought a 3a power supply from RS (outrageous price) and 3a didn't cut it. You can buy a decent quality 10a from Copper for the price of RS's 3a.

My suggestion would be to buy a bigger power supply. No less than 10amps.

Bigbob I did not put down radio shack .I just said I bought one and it caused the problem.I have bought other items and have had things that did not work out of the box.plus other people have had the same problems with items bought.2nd I have never put the shack down as you said the tenth time.you need to know what you are talking about when you try to complain.this is a forum for opinions not to try and acuse some one of something.jyd may have bought a pyramid or triplite and it can be bad.it was the 3 amp as 671 stated that I had to buy and it did not handle the radio.my local shack does not carry anything bigger.the manager said he only carrys what his area needs for his customers.

Although you may not *think* the Galaxy/Voyage needs 6 amps, you'd be surprised. I would see If I could borrow a 10a from someone to see if your hum is still there. You might also try a Cobra 29 or the like on your supply to see if it is indeed something in your supply.

Do yourself a favor and skip the small stuff and get a bigger PS right off the bat. I have owned a PS-26K for general use for 10 years and it works great. Strong enough to run a SSB export radio and a 2-pill amp.
