I have a Galaxy 66 in my pickup with a wilson 5000 and a palomar 225 amp. My problem appears whenever it wants to it seems like. Most of the time during transmit, the audio is extremely loud, the power meter shows 9 and swings forward, and the talkback is so loud that I cand turn it on. Now the other day going to work I noticed that When I keyed up, the meter was down on 2 for some reason. so I checked all of the radios settings and it was all fine. Then I noticed that it wasn't swinging like it always did and I could use the talkback without it sqealing. But I got a radio check from a trucker and he said is was real loud and just a little bit too much audio when we were close. So I dont think the accual output of this radio is effected but just what the meter shows. Now here is the big kicker, I had a DX 99 that did the exact same thing. Is this just something with the Galaxy line of radios or is it something I a doing with the installation of it in the truck? Or something elese maybe...Thanks...Eddie

Causes of intermittent talkback volume and meter reading fluctuations:
1. Coax end(s)
2. Antenna problem
3. Insufficient ground of amp, antenna, or coax shields.
Any of the above can be your problem and can be intermittent. Keying your radio with amp on and gently moving your different coaxes back and forth to see if it acts up. Pull your antenna over at the top and let go so it sways and check your radio meter. Last is making sure your antenna mount has good body ground and body to frame ground. One of these is the most common cause of the problem you describe.

Thanks alot 671. Now that I think of it, I have my radio mounted right under the ashtray and is so close I cant open it. The other day I loosened the knobs and tilted the radio down in the front so I could get something out of the ashtray. Maybe I wiggled something loose when I did that. It has since straightened out and is working fine but I should look into it and fix it for good. BTW, is that your motor? Looks good. I go down to the Cecil county dragway just about every weekend. I only live 4 miles from it...Thanks again...Eddie
