Well, I hate to be fickle. But, I was sold on the VR9000 until I saw the Connex 4800 DXL. OOOO MAMA!! From what I see it has ALL the bells and whistles INCLUDING a 6 digit frequency counter and 12 BANDS of channels (480!!). It also appears to be cheaper than the high end Galaxy models. My question to the techs is --- Is this a pipe dream? Are there any pitfalls to this radio? Is the Galaxy or VR9000 the better buy in the big sounding radio category? My Texas Star is ready to push a BIG RADIO. HELP!!! Im ready to spend some money on a qulaity rig. So far this 4800 looks AWESOME! I know you guys wont let me down!! |

Wow, no else raves about this seemingly incredible radio. Even the Truckers on 19 dont seem to have to much to say. Am I missing something? |

Hammunition, Most here in Memphis have never heard of the 4800. Everyone only seems to know of the 3300 and some of the 4400. The radio shops here don't even have a 4800 for anyone to look at! The 4800 was my choice for my next radio, but with the price of the VR9000, and the features and good looks of the 4800, my choice is hard to make at this point! |

It's a good radio but I'm not going to rave about it.In America you can buy anything you want except a 23 channel CB. |

Dear Anonymous, Im in the same boat, I KNOW the VR9000 is a GREAT radio, BUT, the features of the 4800DXL are too many to ignore. ALOT more channels, 6 digit freq counter, AND all the bells and whistles the VR9000 has. The extra $150 isnt an issue for me. If it performs in the manner advertised, I'm all over it. On one hand I hear its a Cobra copy and falls apart. On the other, 307 says it "crunches up" the Magnum 257 (I own the 257). I would just love to hear from a 4800 owner who can confirm it is a killer big sounding radio. I trust the Copper crowd. So speak up out there!! |

Hi just to let you know I own 3 connex 4800, one is the new one with echo and tb. these are the same radios as the cobra 148gtl dx + I own3 of these too (one is new still in the box) to get to the point with a good tune up, YES these radios will do some talking. I run a 575m6 mic on the ones I use and they sound great. I still own galaxy 88's and a new ss3900hp gold, but the 4800 &cobra 148gtl-dx+ to me are great. you buy one, you WILL be happy with it |

I have a 4800DXL it is a very good radio EXCEPT for a few minor problems. it has an over heating problem on long talks it gets VERY hot and in some cases has shut itself down (it comes back on after it cools) I also have some squeal problems running a echomax 2000 the mic gain must be set at about 50% and the mic is at about 7 also the back of the mic gain must be turned way down. I also have a question about an AMP the palomar 250 for 99.99 does this need a mod to operate on 11 meters and if so what is it? Thanks 73's |

I have a 4800 and LOVE it. The best mobile radio i've ever owned. I have a lincoln,2510,2970,RG99(same as the 4800 no freq.counter),RPSY-485 . The Connex is by far the best I've ever used. Very Stable, feature rich, great looking. Fantastic radio everyone should own one! |

Jon666, Just to Clarify the 30 dollar mods for you that you mention above. Here are the Areas the Copper will Align on the Peak & Tune per the Forummaster's Post on this Topic. * RX (Receive) ~ Alignment per Manufacturer Specifications. * TX (Transmit) ~ Alignment per Manufacturer Specifications. * PLL Synthesizer ~ Alingment per Manufacturer Specifications. So in actuality the Only Modification being done is the Conversion for 11 Meter's. The Rest is the Peak & Tune. Hope this clears some things up. Lon Tech808 |

I Have had my Connex 4800DXL for about two years, tried several mics, finally buckled it up to an astatic 575, great radio, no problems other that it doesnt like the cold, in cold weather the freq will read high til the radio warms up. This same thing seems to happen on most export radios, my Galaxy 99, and superstar did the same thing. |
