Unfortunaly the "Mods" for channels on this radio are very expensive , it is all driven by banks of crystals. You could peak it though but the power will not be high enough for the worth while... |

you would have to get a thing called a slider in which various crystals are put in to it to slide or go to another frequency. heck i had modified a clarifier one time and it went from channel 23 to 75!! but damned if it would stay on frequency. really dont know what else you can do beside change some crystals out. hey good luck |

The old Pinto was kind of cool in its day, with its black face and the flip down stand for base use. I drooled over them as a kid every time we went to JC Penney. Just the thought of "sideband".... |

the trouble with the pinto 23 ssb was it did not reach the ssb channels.i replaced the crystals in mine with crystals for channel 36 and on up to 27.505. the output was lower than modern 40 channel rigs but it worked fine. there were several versions of this radio and some of them used a variable capacitor for the slider.you had to add a choke in series with the capacitor to get 10 or 15 hz slide. i believe this mod was in secret cb , volume 2. also, sears and radio shack made a similar version of this radio. |
