Heya 307-
I recently picked up a "99 channel readout convertor" for GE SSB radios. It has very little documentation, other than the hookup instructions. Nothing about what it does or how it works. It does have an EPROM chip on it, which makes me wonder...is this a readout convertor or does it actually program the PLLO2A to get 99 channels? Have you ever run across one of these? |

It does not re-program anything. The EPROM has a program driven by the LSB/MSB Bits on the channel selector that convert it to "N" fields that then are fed to the PLL. At the same time the output of the Eprom drives a TTL Driver and Twin 7 segment drivers to deliver 99 channel readout.

OK, I guess my question then is, do you suppose the circuit also provides the N fields to put the radio on "uppers" or is it just for the readout to show 99? Like I say, the docs are not specific at all about whether the frequency coverage is affected, nor does it have any provision for any sort of crystal switching. I assumed it is vague on purpose so as not to give the impression of illegally modifying the coverage. |
