I have a recently acquired RCI 2950 that is exhibiting some strange behavior. It keys with the power control set at low and slowly rises from 4 watts to 8 watts. With the control at high it does the same. It won't modulate unless the power is turned all the way up and then on;y does about 50%. If I turn the mic gain down or up it adjusts the power output. ??? On SSB it swings fine to about 32 watts. Frequency range is only from 26.965 to 29.995. The channel display for 1 to 40 doesn't display. Receive seems scratchy almost overloaded. Any ideas anyone ? well i am not a tech but sounds like a bad solder joint,but if you want to spend a little money on it ask 307 if he wants to fix it.he is very smart with this stuff and i had great results when he fixed my amp,and quick turn around time. |

Well heres an update: I opened up the radio and compared the jumper settings to another older 2950. P3 and P4 of J-2 were bridged with solder and it was a lousy job. I removed the solder and the radio now seems to key properly. J-1 had the jumper moved to P1 and P2 instead of P2 and P3. I moved that jumper and the channel indicator appeared. The other junmper on the other side of the radio was also not in the correct position but I'm not sure what moving that corrected. Still not much swing on modulation and there seems to be a little squealing out of the mic. The radio won't modulate with the power setting all the way down and will only talk with at least a three watt dead key. Receive is still too sensitive. Keying a handheld nearby cuases the radio audio to sound distorted but I can here the guys on channel 6 OK with my indoor antenna. All other functions seem to be working. Looks like a realignment by a tech with the proper equipment is in order but there none here in my area. The last time I took a radio (superstar LBJ) to the tech here at the local CB shop he checked it out and said yep it's broke and gave it back to me. Go figure. |

i have a freind that has a 2950 and his dont talk as good as my vr-9000, not much swing and it tops out about 30 watts |
