I hooked up my klv and used it on am a few times. I tryed it on ssb last night and people tells me it sounds like there is "static" with it on only. I tryed turning the power ont he radio and amp both almost down to nothing a little at a time. they said it sounded better with the radio's power really low, but still not "right." Any ideas? |

That amp requires about 2 watt deadkey. No more that maybe 2 1/2 |

The reason that people tell you that they hear static noise with it on SSB is because the KLV-550 is biased class B at best and more likely is running class C. You will not notice it on AM as much as you will on SSB. The amp should really be biased class AB for SSB operation. There are modifications you can do to it, but if you don't undestand what I am talking about when I say bias then you propbably won't be able to perform these modifications yourself. Phil |
