Hello, Gentlemen! I have a Galaxy DX959 that I got last December. I have been quite satisfied with the quietness of the receiver. I sent the radio to a technician a couple months ago to have various mods done. During our conversations, I found that it was his opinion that the noise blankers in RCI/Galaxy radios, although they work well, are not as good as the noise blankers in the Lincoln/HR2510. I have since then purchased a Lincoln. I sent the Lincoln to a tech to be Chipswitched; but before sending it, I hooked it up in the pickup. When I started my engine, I noticed somewhat more ignition noise than I get with the 959.Turning on the blanker cut out quite a bit of it, but it was still noisier than the Galaxy. When I sent it to the tech, I asked him to go on and check the noise blanker. According to him, the blanker is working normally, but he says that the blanker in a Galaxy is better than the one in a Lincoln; just the opposite of what the other tech said. So what do you think? Also, if it's true that the blanker in a Lincoln is inferior, is there any mod that can improve it?

Tha NB/ANL on the 959 is supiorior to the Lincoln. Ask them a question that will floor both techs..."How did you test them"...There is only one way to do it...Let me know and then I will tear it up... 307 |

307, since that question doesn't 'floor' me, would you mind if i tell you exactly what was done to the nb in the 959 and how it was aligned? and i honestly wouldn't mind you 'tearing it up'. i can't speak for the lincoln, but maybe that tech is 'reading the mail' also. richard byrd |

Yeah, I guess you mean that they bench tested them instead of doing an in-vehicle test. But I'm confused about the "tear it up" part. What do you mean? BTW, I plan to soon make a thread asking about help with eliminating noise at the source in the vehicle. I've got a real noise problem, especially on AM broadcast radio, in my '94 S-10. |
