I want to know what kind of amp I could hook up safely to an eagle sidewinder. This is for information purposes.

depends on how much output you want. the sidewinder , with 4w am/12 ssb should safely drive anything from a KL40 on up to the big boys.

Luckyman : This is the second post I was referring to.I won't tell you at this time what my system consist of but how I use it's capabilities.
I have radio contacts located at 5 miles,12 miles ,20 miles,30 miles etc..I also like to skip talk .
As my system is setup now I can talk to all these contacts clearly without blowing their speakers out.
For 5 miles I talk barefoot(no help).For 12 miles I'll use about 80 watts.For 20 miles I'll use 250 watts.For 30 miles I'll use 400 watts.For further distances I'll use ( depending on conditions of weather ,skip etc.from 400 watts to 1200 watts.All & all I vary my power to meet the situation.
I don't want my contact telling me I'm burying his needle at 30db.All I want to do is talk to the guy.I'm not interested in impressing him with the power I'm running.

#1 Exactly what is a Eagle Sidewinder ?
#2 Do you talk on AM or sideband or both ?
#3 Do you know the dead key output?
These are the most important questions when trying to decide what type of amp to use with your radio.Thousands of radiomen start off with small power units (ie.) 25 watts,40 watts,100 watts and will soon tire of the low watts and will upgrade over and over trying to quench that thirst for more power.
A good rule of thumb for me,considering I've been on the radio since 1975,is to purchase a good 400 watt high drive unit which will keep you satified for quite some time.If you have variable power on your radio you can adjust your power output to meet the different conditions you will come across on a daily basis.I don't want to make this post too long so I will make another post to try and explain what I'm trying to get across.

vernonott is right about upgrading all the time and not being happy with what you have...i started with a 50 watt box, then 100, the 150 , then texas star 250, then boomer 400, the palamar 600, now i have a x force xt 400 and this seems to be a limit for awhile shell put out 650 dead key and swing almost 1000. if you dont want to upgrade you altenator or batteries id run a texas star 350 or the boomer 400. youll be really happy. the sidewinder does 4 watts am and 12 watts ssb so a low drive linear is good or get a hi drive which means 10 watts am and 21-25 watts ssb can be put into it if you turned up your power already in your sidewinder. hey put a d 1o4 hand held mike on it and it will be nice and loud. i have a sidewinder and it is dang loud this way. hey good luck

bought a sidewinder from copper aucton and also the rm 351/9 amp with the 6 power setting. Will be getting it all set up later this week.

I am going to turn the sidewinder down to one watt to run the amp.

Have been asking 307 questions about the 11 meter conversion. On my circuit board, there wasn't pins or jumper to set. He has ans the post and I will try to get it done soon. Love the size of the radio 2x6x8 1/4
