I have a Galaxy ssb with 1W swinging to 20W driving a jb12 the relay chatters when trying to key it up, If I raise the dead key to 3W it will stay keyed and sometime still chatter. The jb12 has a 6AQ5 keying tube (the box is aprox 50 yrs old) puts out aprox 55W. Can I change the keying system or modify the existing system so I can drive it with 1W. I would like some Hel,diagrams suggestions something, thanks Jake

sounds like a bad jumper,if it keys its not the keying tube, has it been fixed for 11 meter?sounds like acoax problem or the amp needs to be straped.

there is a coil in the amp and say the amp is only good for 80 through 10 meter and you want to operate on 11 meter you have to go inside and run a copper wire from a certain point of the coil to the tune. all amps are diffrent, most have already been straped.but mine was'nt.they operate beter when this is done,

Most tube amps will work with five turns of no.10 or 12 wire. A broom handle makes a good form. You can jump five turns on the original tank coil, or strip some wire and make a new one. Generally, most will tune correctly for five-or-so turns. Some of the JB12's required fairly high drives to stay keyed. You might change the bias on the 6AQ5 to get a lower key-up level.

That is what I though you meant. The jb12 was never intended for operation ouside the 11 meter band so strapping doesn't apply here.
