Hello I have a cobra 148 gtl that I am trying to overhall, I have the mic wireing down to an art now but I want to restore this radio back to its original state someone has added the extra channels to this radio and it has a bad hum, the meter does not move I believe that they used the nb and dimmer switch for the channels, I want to remove the channels and restore the dimmer and nb, If anyone has acces to the schematics of this radio or can step me through this I would greatly appreciate it, I have no Idea if it has been peaked and tuned, I have no way of telling the power output without a mic yet, I know how to wire the mic but have yet to do it, thanx to tech 181 and 307 for helping figure out the mic wireing, anyway any help would be greatly appreciated thanx in advance for any help. 73's |

Well the first thing I would like to do is get rid of the extra channels, I think they pulled the b+ off the audio ic and its getting feedback through it making it hum, they used the dimmer and tone switches for the channel mod I just want to know first off how to restore these dimmer and tone, and get rid of the channels.thanx for your response. and I kinda figured this would be up in the ball park,,,,lol. 73's |

http://members.aol.com./cbmods/8719.htm first take a look at this web sight and see how the channels were added as in the drawing.there is 2 or 3 ways to add channels.this will have to be repaired.just reverse the drawing.tell you what .I will see if I can send you a e-mail with a few links that will help you. |

Thanx very much guys, now that I know how to get rid of the channels, I just have to figure out how to get the meter working and restore the dimmer and tone to normal working order, This is just a project radio but of course I want it to work, I have worked on many other different radio's before but this one seemed to be a challenge seeing as that I didn't do the mods to it and didn't know how whoever done them, did it, anyway any more imput would be great, thanx a million 73's barakuda318 |

Thanx sonoma I did get your emails, they helped greatly, I have removed the channels, but that is all, what I am going to do now is put a 4 pin mic connector where the oddball 5 pin mic connector is, so that it will be more universal, then I will hook up and see if it puts anything out, What I want to do next is get the meter working, I may have to buy a new meter for it if anyone knows where I can get a meter for this 148 on the cheap, I would be much appreciative of it, any more input sonoma would be awsome, my email is ilovewistkp@aol.com, christyandmarvin@aol.com is the main screen name and I very seldom go there, I think that I put that in my profile though my mistake, thanx guys and have a good one 73's |
