Hi 307. If I buy a Ranger 2970, 2950, etc. and do the mod to get it to work on 11 meters, will it still work on 10 meters without having to un-mod it? In fact, I don't even know what the 'mod' is and whether or not tuning afterwards would be critical. Would you shed some light on this for me? Thank you in advance! |

Yes it will! Tuning is not critical . I have had 2950's for years and they work great on 10 and 11 STOCK. You can peak it out as well and it is pretty much the same on 10 as it is on 11. |

So 307, you mean the 2970 is already working on 11 meters when you get it? No mod required?? Neat! O.K.... I'll start looking at which one I want. All I know is that there is NO DANG WAY I will ever own a radio with that retarded echo in it. Rubs me the wrong way.... Thanks for the info! |

I don't think the FCC worries as much about freebanding around the 11 meter band.. but if you start fooling around on 6 meters without a license your stupid. $7,000-$10,000 is a little bit too steep of a fine for me.. |

The New rci-5054 will have a cpu that will only allow the radio to go from 50-54mhz. This radio will mostly be sold by Ham radio dealers and will have all of its advertising directed toward the ham radio community. This is NOT a cb or a freeband export radio. Most dealers that sell to the cb\10m\freeband crowd, will not sell this radio. I doubt that copper will ever carry it, but I could turn out wrong. Copper is a great source for cb\10 meter gear but I believe that the new rci-5054 does not fall within the type of equipment that their customer database is looking for. Copper Electronics is a legitimite company that I believe will not support or help influence unlicensed operation on the 6 meter HAM band. I personally plan on buying the radio. I enjoy using 6 meter fm on my Alinco, and I would love to have 6 meter sideband capability. Ranger communications is trying to move away from the cb radio crowd and Market their new radios to the Ham Radio commmunity. Within a few years all of the radios sold by ranger will be unmodifiable and useless to cber's. They are doing that on pourpose. Recently Ranger sent a memo to all dealers that carry their products. The memo stated that if any radio was sent to them for service, and if the radio had any parts clipped, removed or if the rig was altered in ANY UNAUTHORIZED way, they will send the unit back and not honer the warrantee. I support Ranger 100% for doing so. 73' and take care from Bobby Aguero, aka Badintermod |

I put that question out just to see the reaction i would get it is sad that so many of you do not seem to understand that you try to justify using frequencys just outside the 40 cb channles but find it silly that some one ask such a question as for the fcc all you have to do is go on ebay and look at the amount of 6 meter and 2 meter radios being sold to persons who do have a ticket once you step out of the 40 ch of cb how far do you feel you can go ? At least this radio will not intrest most of you not that all of you are poor examples of what is out on cb bruce |

Bruce: Wha?? I plan to use the 2950 on 10 meters and maybe 12, but want to have the capability to use it on 11 in an emergency situation. I have no interest in using the 'freeband' at all. Now, with 6 meters, the band edges are occupied with high powered radio services, unlike freeband. I believe the issue was what good would a 6 meter radio be 'out of band'? If you live in an area with no transmissions outside the 6 meter band, and feel like you just HAVE to try and find someone to talk to there, that's your deal. However, nobody here is a 'poor example of what is out on cb', we are just informed and aware of band segments. |

Dear Badintermod, Ranger, Galaxy, etc purposely design their units in a manner to enable modification simply for monetary gain. By doing so, they increase their customer base significantly. They would be cutting their throats by chosing to make future gear harder or impossible to modify. CB fanatics buy more gear than HAMers ever do. There are more unlicensed radio afficionados than licensed Hams. Unlicensed operators keep this industry alive. If illegal setups suddenly ceased licensed HAM operators would be screaming to provide an easier licensure process. This is evidenced by the recent removal of the code requirement for the entry level license. HAM organizations go out of business daily because of lack of participation. If HAMs were SO righteous, they would demand license presentation before entry to a HAMFEST. But, they know vendors would scream and take their business elsewhere. Its all about money folks. Dont hate your unlicensed operators, THANK THEM. |

one quick point ranger and others are under great pressure from the fcc not the hams to tighten up the radios the droping of the code was a long overdue reaction to the fact that it is not a major factor in modern radio and will probley go byby in 2003 every one knows my stand as a long time ham code never stoped anyone and by the way 15 years ago when the stink hit the fan over the no code the cry was THEY WILL KILL HAM RADIO !! guess what they have a better record than some of the general class do just lissen on HF simply its the person! bruce

If thats the case, the FCC really disappoints me. Florida is loaded, I MEAN LOADED, with illegal pirate radio stations. The DJ's sling strings of obscenities, play the foulest music around, and actually accept monies for advertisements. If thats not racketeering, I dont know what is. I guess the amatuer radio crowd is easier to target. How sad for all of us who just want to talk to our friends with a little power. What a merry band of hardened criminals. |

Don't forget: The very first broadcast stations were hams. These pioneers would transmit news and sometimes musical selections for other hams and those with radio receivers (rare in those days). One of the first stations became KCBS, another became KDKA. Nowadays, these same people would be called PIRATES! It's just too bad those pirates choose to air such foul programming. |

Hammunition: When the DX is rolling out of Florida I can hear one of those pirate stations, I think its on 26.465. They play some of the sorriest excuses for music I've ever heard and it's pretty pitiful. It might be better if they would at least get some Lynyrd Skynyrd or something bearable! |

Oklahoma 428 These stations you hear could be legit stations. This part of the spectrum is still used for Studio to transmitter links. Under the ECPA of 1986, It is unlawfull to listen to these, but most stations will QSL reception reports! |

Oklahoma 428...that is a legitimate radio station STL operating on 26.460 fm. You are picking it up on AM because of the detection that happens when you tune slightly off of a FM frequency. I listen to it and in fact have it programmed into my 11m radio for propagation checking. |

There is a station here using 26.450 FM as an RPU remote link. When the station does a remote broadcast, you hear the DJ saying 'Come on down to...' and then after the break is over, they still leave the mic. on and you can hear the DJ interacting with the crowd (complete with filthy language sometimes). I'm not sure what freq. they go up on, but obviously come back to the studio on the 26 meg freq. |

I just bought one from my local ham radio store. We had to go through a few boxes before we found one with the plug in it. Sorry, Copper. I love to purchase through you, but I try to keep the money local whenever I can. I still need to subscribe to that magazine of yours though.... |
