307:Exactly what is the difference between installing a signal chopper in line and just adjusting your RF gain?My local CB shop is selling these things like hot cakes , but I don't see any advantage to them. That's $19.95 I can spend on other gear .

The noise chopper is sort of an rf gain except it does filter some noise out as well. They sold these years ago to CB shops. The main goal was to get alternator whine out IF it was comming down the coax and not the power line. Turned out they "quiet" down the other noises as well so they took off...The FASTEST way to get rid of noise is to put a pair of Germanium Diodes back to back across the AM detector to chassis ground. This only lets pass signals UNDER 3/10 of a volt so the NB does not have to work as hard.
