I asked this question before in another forum topic But the Next Radio I buy is going to be installed in a Jeep Wrangler which I think is what killed my Cobra 18wxst the bumps an knocks so I want to make sure I get a tuff radio any recomendations? #2 I opened up the cobra to look (with a Magnifying glass and Mag-lite) for anything that looked loose or broken and found nothing, could one of the adjustable components be carbon fouled or out of whack somehow? and is there anything else i should look for? Oh Yeah Usually 1 good whack on the bottom of the radio and it works great ha ha and it sounds great when it works or so Im told. FlaGator66 PS: Can you help me get a Forum account I submitted an email for one about 4 days ago and nothing back so far Id Like to be able to use the same Handle ---> FlaGator66 |

Ok the KL40 does not have the preamp Thats just fine by me I will keep my eye on a preamp Maybe ol Copper will throw a few of them on his Auction Im thinking seriously about going with a smaller radio (just am) and not bothering with the ssb for my jeep But Rather stick with something Simple like a Uniden, put the warmer after it and maybe thro a small recieve amp in the whole kit an kaboodle and see what happens there I think before I go with a preamp I will try mounting my 6ft FireStack higher up and go from there What do you think 307 ? Steve I tried to email you from here and your info was not available THanks FlaGator66 |

Royce 619 was a "Lincoln Town Car" in its day. If yours is truly mint condition, take care of it and enjoy. DOn't try to tweak the crap out of it. Remember, getting a few more watts and 20% more mod will only speed up the demise of the radio. If you want some extra watts..grab a KL-40 from Copper. It'll cost less than the radio tune-up and give you far more output than you could ever get by tweaking. BTW..I saw that radio on EBAY and passed it up 'cause I was buying a 2 meter rig that week... |

Hey 307 and everyone else that gave me solutions to my Jeep radio problem I have purchased a Uniden PC76XL for the jeep I am going to build a center overhead console for it and the KL40 warmer that I have I also found a 3 fuse add on fuse block to power the whole kit an kaboodle should run and look very nice when I put it all together Im gonna have radio set at exactly 4 watts output so I dont blow the amp and end up with paper weight THANKS TO ALL Gator |

definetly put the dipole out side if thats what you plan to use for a while remember a dipole is primarily two directional so place acordingly you can build the dipole very cheap by taking your frequency(27mhz) and dividing into 465 it comes out to about 17.3 feet for 1/2 wave dipole about 8.5 feet each side cost less than ten dollars when building 1/4 wave vertical just divide frequency into 234 for ant length (save your time and money buy an antron99 good luck |

I have built several 1/2 wave dipole using speaker wire and using plastic from old soap jugs as insulaters. The lenghts of the wire are the same as mentioned above. The only problem with putting it in an attic is Your polorization would be vertical. Also your signal would be parallel to the wire antenna. That is just fine for talking skip, but to communicate with local base's or cars, their polorization would be vertical. The dipole can be mounted outside and vertical, it should work great. After all, an antron99 is just a center fed dipole antenna. make sure to check your swr . |

i have a titan rpsy-485,( simalar to if not the same as a magnum 257 or eagle sidewinder ), palomar-250, wilson-1000/mag mount, para-dynamics pdc-30 match box and brand new rg8x cables, ( replaced wilsons cable also ). this is all mounted in my 1989 toyota 4runner. my problem is that i can not get the swr down. i have replaced 2 whips already by shortening them to obtain a good swr readig. i just keep pinning my swr meter ( aries hp-5000 ). this is my first amp. is there something about tuning my antenna with an amp that i don't know? thanks in advance |

The wilson was used as a spare. mostly i used it when taking long trips with friends who did not have a rig, i would do a temporary install with an old radio and the wilson so we would be able to keep in touch. over the years though the cable jacket got some nicks and splits. when i put it on my truck this time there was a dead short. it was time for new cable. any suggestions? thanks, fishman487 |
