I'm considering adding a mobile type amp in my radio setup. I like the mobile to use both mobile and on my base with a power supply. Question is amperage. I'm looking a 150 watt amp. The power supply for my radio (it's a mobile I also use as a base) is 4.5 amps which I know is not enough to work both. The wall socket that I use for powering the power supply is only a 20 amp circuit. If I buy this mobile amp, is this a consideration when purchasing another power supply? I guess I'm asking if I were to purchase a huge power supply putting out 30 continuous amps, it would blow my house circuit breaker once turned on. Right so far??? would a 15 amp power supply be workable for 150 watt amp? |

That is 30 amps at 12 volts...at 120 volts it is only a few amps and would not blow the house fuse.. 307 |

divide 150 by 120,that'll tell you how many additional amps that amp. will draw on house wireing,oh add the wattage draw of P.S. to the 150 figure. On a 20 amp circuit you should be able to run a 100 watt trans.driving a 1600 watt amp, just get a big enough P.supply, the lights will blink a little but it's great effects on halloween. |

Thanks 307, had to pull out the book I'm studying on electricity (imagine that huh!) to figure out where you came up with that one. 12V vs 120V made sense. I appreciate your response. Now I understand. Alsworld aka Alan aka 799 Northwest Florida |
