Techs, my HR2510 is pretty old and the previous owner has hacked on it some. It has a bigger final, which in itself might be OK. I can't get the ALC to bring down the SSB. I has a new audio chip, but it is intermittent. Sometimes I have to bang or squeeze on that side to hear. I think the regulator needs work, AM power fluctuates a few watts. It seems to be right on alignment, that's good. I have a brand-new face plate to put on, I can do that if I get the radio operating normally. My question is, what do you guys recommend? I'm going to upgrade to Tech+ soon, then General and would like to have my favorite radio in good shape to enjoy 10 (maybe chipswitch in the future for 12). |

Znut, Love those 2510's! Putting on a new face plate huh? Get ready to cuss, swear, and throw things! Watch those little buttons and the guts behind them. They like to take flight. Stock final was a MRF477. 40 watt transistor that is getting very hard to find, but there are some floating around. Get out the checkbook. No limiting control? Was the limiter clipped or removed? Check D-129. Power regulator is IC-107. Should have 8VDC coming out of it. Check for broken trace or bad solder joint if it's imtermittent. Audio amp is IC-103. Another thing to check. Same as above. If the thing is otherwise solid it's definately worth salvaging. I will never give up mine, and as soon as I get back my test counter from "307" she's getting a full alignment. Hey guys, I'm eager to know what you think. I've spent many hours talking on this rig. Is she able to be brought back to her glory? How worthwhile? Thanks, Znut ejd682001@yahoo.com |

I've had less trouble with that problem with my 2510 than my other radios but I've never had anyone womp my front-end at those specific freq's. My Euro 3900 is terrible about bleedover, but I don't think I've heard it swamped. When I xmit on 2meters it doesn't do a thing to the 2510 even with the antennae about 8' apart. Take Care, Znut |

What are good part #'s for the voltage regulator and the audio chip, since I don't know If the right ones are in it now and if there are any improved ones (I have schematic, I could look there for original #'s I guess). Also, have you and 307 checked my post under "Ask the tech:modifications" about the midland clarifier? Thanks, Randy |

Looking at the schematic, IC107, the Voltage Regulator looks like part #HA17808W, the Audio Amp, IC103, looks like part #TDA1905. Steve Tech181 Tech181@copperelectronics.com |

Tech 181, I took the bottom cover off and followed a wire(not stock) under the CPU board. It had some sort of transistor and resistor at the end and went to the main PCB. One of the legs was touching something on the PCB. I took it off and put heat shrink on the legs and soldered them back. That solved the intermittent audio problem. Then I took the little capacitor off the final to see what final is in it. MRF497 (see original post) By the way, the legs of the caps are lifted off the legs of the final and driver. The diode, D129 is there but no Q114. Doesn't really look like it was to begin with. There is some contraption underneath, a transistor with two resistors, looks like it either broke or is disconnected. If you look at the main PCB from the bottom, it is in the upper left(near the rear of the radio), suspiciously near the underside of the ALC. I don't know, maybe I'll get resourceful and trace it. I'll let you know what I see. My buddy who hacked it got it to scream but I want it to work right too and last. I'll keep you posted. Take Care, Randy |

By the way, my buddy was the previous owner, this is NOT work that I had done. |
