I have been interested in general grant for some time.if you dont carry it what would you recommend as another option?i have heard of the ranger line its a good radio but have heard of problems from other drivers.from what i gather its from constant vibrations and jolts from a big truck.i like the idea of a built in 200 watt amp.makes it easyer for me to remove from my truck as one unit.epen for suggestions...

I have a General Grant in my Ford Dullie. I have done several mods to it. It is one jam up radio. I also just bought a Ranger 6300 FTB turbo to replace a Galaxy 99 in my Chevy pickup. Both are great radios. You have to decide about the echo and taklback feature that the Ranger 6300 offers and the Gen. Grant does not. I like to run a little echo on all my radios, Not enough to repeat, but just enough echo to give you that added bass tone. In my Gen. Grant I added a Sadelta handheld echo ( ME-3 ) without talkback. I get good compliments on it. I just bought the 6300 and just now doing the mods on it. But with all that rf power coming from the 2- 2290 finals, the talkback wants to squeal a bit with the mike gain wide open. I have to turn the mike gain to about 12 o'clock so it dont squeal. If you insist on echo in your radio, I'd go with the Ranger 6300 turbo. If you dont care that much about the echo, I'd go with the General Grant. The Gen. Grant is the much better looking of the two, with the gold knobs and trim around the faceplate.
If the 6900 had the variable ( echo & time ) feature I would go with it, because is has USB & LSB. But has a pushbutton echo.

wheelhorse424 thanks for the help i havent decided yet still looking around for the rodio that fits my needs. ihave looked at the rangers.but still not sold on them yet.do like the echo in all my radios. thats why i havent bought the grant yet.i really like the built in amp but i can also use them seperate.i wonder if echo can be added to the grant internally or externally.without removing original nobs. or hurting radio hope copper reads this for some help.once again thanks for the help 424 |

I have used the bandit echo board. It's a small unit that fits inside the radio and has a small pot on board that you adjust at the time of installation. You can always open the radio up and adjust, but usually you set it like you want it and leave it alone. I have one if you are interested.
I run the Sadelta ME-3 on my Gen. Grant.
I started to install a Connex echo on mine, but did not want to mess up the stock appearance. |
