Can this be fixed. This is what happened. The power connector came undone from the back of the radio. [radio mounted in truck] I reached down under and hooked it back up. Turned on and blew a fuse. replaced fuse and blew again. Reach in box not looking at what i had and put a 20 amp fuse in. Hence a smoking radio. When i took the radio out i noticed tha the power plug was in wrong. When i pushed it back in i had it turned around and pushed the locator pin in. Opened it up could not see anything burned, but then i don't know what to look for. Can this be fixed. It makes a ticking sound when power is supplied to the radio when radio is shut off. |

Crossbow, Protection diode could be blown. It's a small diode located near where the power connector is inside the rear of the radio. The diode allows voltage to only flow in one direction, hence the destruction of it when the radio was plugged in backwards.

TECH 181 Being a don't have a road map to the inside, I started looking for anything out of sink. I found a little barrel looking thing #L49, that looks like it might be burned. The sealer they put on the end where the wire goes in is gone and it's dull in color. [green] Is this the right one and where would i get another. |

just find it and replace it or cut it out |

I think the diode is only the beginning. Crossbow, if you look where your hot wire comes in the radio and follow it to the board, the nearest diode will be blown. In case you don't know the diode is a black cylindrical device with a silver strip. The replacement can be a 1N4003 or similar (4001, 4007). Generally when you persist in hooking these in reverse polarity with large fuses, it burns traces from the board and can take out multiple parts. I'd send it to a doctor for an estimate. |

tech 181 i downloaded the diagram, blew it up and printed it out but could not read what the numbers were. warlock i went to the local rs to see if i could get a diode. it was a 60 mile drive for nothing. do you know who might carry these or do you know a good doctor in northeast texas or??? |

radio back up and running. it was the 1n4003 diode now should i cut the r131 limiter for more modulation. i guess i should ask where can i find this r131 on the board |

no do not clip it, just find the modulation pot and turn it all the way up then back just a hair if you clip the resistor you will overdrive the audio ic and eventually blow it, also it causes your modulation to distort very badly, good luck 73's |

Sorry taz I wasn't replying to your post I was replying to crossbow's post directly above mine, he specifically stated, "now should i cut the r131 limiter for more modulation." Thanx and 73's |
