Hello,

My landlord gave me the OK to go topside but the only place I have to install the antenna is on a 4” vent pipe that’s 29 1/2 inches tall.

I would like to have the antenna at least 10ft high by attaching 2x 5ft 16 awg pipes without guy wire. Do you think that by placing the clamps well apart from each other the pipes will hold the force of winds?

No. If you acquire some pipe-to-pipe clamps, you could mount the A99 directly to the 4" diameter vent pipe, assuming it is stout enough to handle the antenna. Most vent pipes are not very stout.

Thank you for the reply tech.

I think the pipe is made of iron.

Here’s a picture of the pipe.

Tech 833 is as always correct. You have to consider the weight of the antenna, the stress from the leverage of the antenna at the end of the pipe and last but not least the wind load you will encounter. I would say where you live you encounter some very strong winds. I see your a new member and glad to see your here on the best radio forum you would want to be on. GREAT TECH'S HERE not to mention lot of HAM operator's. Not to forget a lot of seasoned cb operator's that are willing to help. By the way do a google search on location's you may mount a cb antenna in restricted a zone that could be stealth or hidden. Have a blessed day.

If you extend that pipe, and don't use guy wires, you'll break it off as soon as a good wind hits that A99. Your best bet is mount the antenna right to the pipe, assuming it will see over that brick wall behind it. It not, then please consider some guy wires.

Thank you for the replies.

I'm going to stick with the Trim 3' antenna that I bought back in 2018. It's smaller so I can put it in that pole and I don't have to worry much about the wind.
