I am planing on building a 2 meter 70cm beam antenna. I would like to know what if any effect the diameter of the element's would make if any on the performance of the beam ? I don't care about the weight of the beam that is not a problem. I have been looking at many do it yourself project's on the net. I was thinking of using half inch element's. ANYONE OR ANY TECH'S WHAT HAVE YOU TO SAY TO HELP. |

The biggest affect (if any) element diameter has would be bandwidth, and to be honest you can get more than enough bandwidth using wire as thick as a coat hanger at 2m/70cm. Having said that, apart from weight which you have already discounted I see no issues with using 1/2 inch. Most 2m beams use around 3/8 inch or less for the elements Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?
