I'm interested in the 2970-N4 with the 2879 transistors! I've heard arguments on amplifiers with CB radios my whole life! 400 watts internal is a great idea. My question is the internal heating during transmit? This can be a killer! How stable is this radio with the internal amplifier built into the Ranger 2970-N4? I know as long as it stays cool all is good! In a car insulation there not always a good place to install a amplifier for a CB Radio in the newer cars. My main concern is the overheating from the 2879 transistors with the delicate internal components. 73's |

The RCI DX radio's are very stable. The only problem I would have with the 2970n4 is the amplifier transistor's are discontinued. So if they were to ever go out you most likely you would not be able to find the original. If you did find them they would be very expensive. The good news is there are generic transistor's out there. On the heat I would say this could be a problem if it were tuned to high unless you added more fan's on the outside of the radio. This radio has built in fan's inside. In my opinion it is a great radio. Can not go wrong. However, you might want to get the 2950dx then buy a Texas Star amp. like a 500 or 667. Have a blessed day bass bug. Oh by the way my radio's are the RCI 2950 DX, 2985DX, 2995DX, 2970N2 I also have ham radio's as well |

You might want to use a extra long heavy duty bracelet for the N4 to elevate, so the fan will not suffocate |
