If I was to buy this radio and have nothing done to it, would this work with my KL-203P? or would i blow something in the amp? |

You would have to reduce the radio to 1 to 1 1/2 watts, as is the amp wouldn't last long at all, that model is designed for a low poWer drive, on my amplifier same model I run 1 1/2 watts to it, swings 80 to 90 watts on ssb and 80 on am. Check you tube for some 980 info. There's a video there on how to disable that annoying beep, beep on channel selector + one to open clarifier. (AM) dead key RT 206 Most say new out of box they only key about 2.5w anyway. (SSB) power RT 203 don't look for stellar numbers here either (Modulation) RT 205 These should be marked on the board. 73 Pressman

Sounds great! You didn't say which radio you're driving with. That 203 makes a fine companion to the 980 too. 73 Pressman

Hey Dale As different techs buy the 980s more info is coming out. Uniden won't release anything on them. They say, "Send it in, we'll fix it." I guess any mods would be gone too. I'll have to break down and get one when I can afford it. A nephew has one and likes it. Real stable little radio, fits into a small place nicely. Like I say, don't expect stellar numbers even after a tune but it is a good sounding radio. There are differing thoughts on the need for a power mike. My nephew's has the stock mike and sounds good. He has the KL 200 behind it and loves the combo. Where did the hotrod in your a.k.a. come from. 73 Pressman
