I almost hate to ask this question because this amp for some reason seems to be the "Rodney Dangerfield" of amps---not respect. Picked one up years ago at a hamfest. Was interested in the fact that it had switchable power inputs. However, with a new set up tubes, max it only does is pep 300. The specs say 500, which for (6) 6KD6 tubes seems reasonable. Amp has new electrolytics, other parts, otherwise OK Thanks, Steve aka gtoguy |

The 350Z did have a lot of problems. The switchable power input was a good idea but the Amp was poorly designed. On the 10 watt input it ran the two tubes driving 4 finals. On the 100 watt input it used the four finals only. Are you running it on low or high input and how much drive are you using. With good tubes they will do 500+ watts easily. It sounds like yours is set on 100 watt input but with a low watt radio or you have a weak tube or tubes. Another thing I remember, on the last one I had there was a big resistor under the bottom up near the front center, it really ran hot and would burn out every so often. The amp would work with it burned out but would only run on the finals. 10-15 watts pep in would only get 2-3 hundred watts out. You said it had a new set of tubes so I guess you do know they are good. It's been well over 20 years since I've seen one of those. Good luck with it. Scrapiron CEF 108 |
