HI,
I just received my JCD-201M from copper and I can't get it to stop squealing when transmitting on my 2970. I noticed if I turn the volume way down on the radio the mic will stop squealing, My audio is very low and the radio is barely being driven. If i put my finger on the metal volume knob the squealing will go away. I'm assuming this is a ground issue? Any help on how to remedy this problem is much appreciated. Thanks 73's Rich

Sounds like you've got some stray RF in the shack. Some power mics are very sensitive to that. Maybe some bad coax or the antenna isn't up to snuff. I don't know what you have for an antenna but common mode current may be the culprit. The coax shield can radiate and bring RF into the shack. Can you give some more detail on the antenna you're using?

Hi Moonraker,
I'm using a grounded antron 99 and LMR400 coax. All my other amplified mic's work perfect. It just seems to be this one. Thanks 73's Rich

Hi Dale,
I've tried the mic in all modes. The only mode it doesn't squeal in is Manual with the gain down very low and the radio gain down low. I'm thinking it's a wiring issue. Copper wired the mic but I think maybe they missed a ground. if anyone has the wiring diagram I'd be very grateful. Thanks 73's Rich

I appreciate Your help Dale, I read the review and have the microphone wired correctly. I'm thinking about grounding the mic to the radio next and see if that eliminates the squeal. Thanks everyone for the suggestions 73's Rich
