I have stated this many times in the past, and will probably state it many more yet -"the best antenna is the one that works for you in your location". I have known situations where a great antenna, in most locations, has been a miserable failure in another, while an antenna generally known for poor performance has worked like a champion in that location. The best way to choose an antenna is to borrow one and try it where you want to use it. In my opinion, and that is all it is, try using a combination (switchable) of a good half-wave or 5/8th wave vertical with a directional antenna that can change polarities from vertical to horizontal. This would give you the best of both worlds. Tech237 N7AUS God made me an athiest, who are you to question his wisdom?

quads from what ive read supposed to work slightly better than yagis.my only concern is there elements are nothing more then wire . in my experience a verticle 5/8 wave usually is best for local talking. with a beam you would have to contineualyy keep turning it for different operators, unless there all in same direction.for local mobile to base its very ideal.for dx most use a flatside yagi beam. however you can do it with about any antenna if conditions are right. dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64 454 [dx numbers] 38lsb
