Hey 307. I got my Melaka today and I am sorta disappionted. The radio will key 7 and swing to 15 on AM, thats not too bad, but it will only do 7 watts, on my Doseys,on FM, not too good, SSB is a good 12 watts,OK but not great. It is also 1.5 kcs high< it reads 27006.5 for ch 4. I paid 30$ for a peak and tune to Copper and I dont think I got much in the way of a peak. Also should they have seen that it is slightly off freq? I KNOW the Melaka will do more than what I am seeing. Can you help? |

I would have to say by the way you are describing it , your dosey needs calibrated , FM should be 6 to 8 watts. You need to hook it straight into the Dosey and then plug a dummy load into the meter. Remove the antenna. I have never seen one do less than 20 watts on SSB. Confirm your meter and if it is still low , let me know and I will peak it and do the mods for you for free... |

I haven't owned a melaka, but from what I read, it just runs a single final, so what you are getting is about right I would say. I think 7 wattts on an accurate meter is too much, it would do better at 3-4. At 7 watts, I bet it would not swing at all on a RMS meter, probably back up. If it had the clarifier opened, or tied, that might explain the 1.5 Kc off. Some of these conversions I have read, does exactly that, it splits the TX and RX 1.5 kc on AM, but the SSB is ok. A PDC 700 meter would give you more swing, I have an extra one, lol,, just kidding, but they do show more than the dosy's, and were the best sellers for me because of that. |

i run my single final radios at 2 watts with a modulator homemade kit. itll swing on rms meter to 12 watts am so i dont know what itll do peak but this works great for me. the finals dont heat up and if you have a box itll scream!! ps if using fm it doesnt swing the meter ! but you can always crank everything open and enjoy full output for a week up to you . been there and done that good luck man. the peak mod that copper does isnt to make the radio at full output but to make it sound better and be more reliable. |

307, I hooked up a dummy load and tried it. I still only get about 15 on ssb. I will take you up on your offer of doing the mods. How can I get the radio to you, well I guess I mean where do I send it to? I spent most of my money on the radio so I will have to find out how much shipping to you is. If you will do the 10kc switch and the clairfer mod I will pay you for those. Sorry that I am not happy with the radio as is but well you know. |
