Hey guys. All of a sudden on SSB I get a full carrier like when on AM. What would cause this? I had this happen a long time ago on another radio as well. Thanks. Keith in Atlanta CEF 150 |

Check your SSB carrier null VR adjust without microphone gain at minimum till no am carrier that would be my first step. |

I have just bought a new Galaxy dx959b stock radio never been opened and was in a sealed package when I recieved it. I was listening to the guys on channel 6 am and when I switch to usb or lsb I can tune them in like if they are on usb or lsb. Not only that but I can also do this on any of the 40 channels. If I remember right you're not suppose to be able to use the clairifier to tune them in to where you can understand anyone from one mode to the next or am I mistaking? |

Well I guess I might be able to answer this myself then. Thinking about this usb has no carrier when keyed but does when modulated. Swing kits allows people to drop their carrier down and modulate it back. So why not just goto sideband anyways? I think it could be from swing kit mods being installed on the radios and the power being turned down to 1 or 2 watts and swinging 25+ watts makes them between am and the sidebands. Am I wrong on this? When life hands you lemons find someone with volka.

Yes, you can easily tune in people talking on AM while you listen in USB or LSB mode. No big deal. Putting in a "swing kit" is a bad idea. Pinched carrier, splatter, all sorts of issues. The swing kits I have seen installed on CB radio actually suppress the carrier except when modulating. So, in effect, you have carrier envelope drift. That does not equal loudness. In fact, it will make your signal sound weak, even when it is not weak in receivers with slower AGC. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Thank You Tech833. I just couldn't remember if that hearing am clearly while on sideband was normal. Today was alot better with usb and lsb in my area as I was able to recieve others from different countries and wasn't bleeding over to the other modes. I definitely need to get busy doing the clairifier mod to my radio and I have to get my antenna put up higher. Right now it's about 3ft. off the ground on a fence pole. I stuck it there for testing a week or two ago. I will get them done when I start feeling better. When life hands you lemons find someone with volka.
