http://www.powerstream.com/Wire_Size.htm If you know the amperage and the distance to your battery use this chart and go one size or two larger. |

If I was doing it, I would use 8 gauge wire. I would not go any smaller. HARVE UNIT199 CEF0210/CVC#018/HAM#010 Midwest 10 Meter Net Controller

That 1200 will be mounted in the back of a suburban and about 18 ft of wire ....I know It's a long run but It's the best place for the 1200 |

If I were going to do it I would use 00 wire gauge from the engine battery straight to another battery in the back next to the amplifier. That would insure that you would have the power available for the initial surge when you key up. After the install check the voltage both keyed and un-keyed at the auxiliary battery. I would also advise that you use a battery isolator like what they use for the motor homes. That separates the engine start battery from the auxiliary battery. |

I just recently bought an alternator from this company. http://www.dbelectrical.com . I am very satisfied with the product I got. They shipped the next business day and I got it in three days. Great quality. The unit was a rebuild and it looked brand new. The next time I need and alternator I'm buying from them again. They have the internally regulated versions which would be great as an auxiliary or even as the primary alternator. If you need more amps they have high amperage units too. |

I found the most favorable, believe it or not, 2/0 gauge on a Texas Star DX 1600 ... 2 Ga. would not feed this amp properly, I was amazed... So for all those running 2/0 on a 16 pill might want to re think it... Kind of off topic, but point is, I had to run 2 lines of 2 Gauge in parallel to give me the same performance a single run of 2/0 for the 8 pill would give me.. Unbelievable. |
