ive got a 102 whip with spring on a tripod for temp use and i cant get the swr below a 3 till it rains then it drops to a 2.5 ive tried grounding it to a ground rod and no change even tried a jumper wire to a trampoline and it didnt change a thing !!!!!! Still looking for a new tower for my new place but i cant go over 30 foot cause of the size of the yard and where i have to put it up at !!!! CEF 115 / CEF HAM 290 /KC9OKX

sounds like a ground issue.even though you did tryto run a ground .wheres the mount located? you try relocating the antenna? dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64

Jason, where is your tripod sitting,on the ground or roof?Try stringing 3-9' wires from the mount as ground radials. tech291 cef291 KC8ZPJ |

its sitting on the ground and i have 3 9 foot wires running out from it plus a wire from the bottom of the tripod to a ground rod so i think ill change the coax out and try that till i can get the tower put up !!!! Thanks guys !!! CEF 115 / CEF HAM 290 /KC9OKX

Had a whip do that once. The insulator bushing was cracked and the whip was shorted. 73 Pressman/KC4ZWM

well i changed the coax and boom its flat funny thing is the coax was new that i used on it . now im going to check the ends and make shure there isnt any loose wires and the connections are good CEF 115 / CEF HAM 290 /KC9OKX

i put up an i max 2000 as i raisd it higher the swr went down also the wattage on my meter went down from the begenning the swr's were about 1.3-1 wattage went from dk 15 on my galaxy 99 to 7 watt dk just by raising the antenna strange... |

If you can check your coax and any fitted plugs for shorts and breaks with a multimeter as it only takes a couple of tiny strands of the outer braid touching the centre core of the coax to mess the whole thing up, I spent a day looking for a problem on my coax and plugs and eventually found a patch lead with perfectly fitted plugs but when bent a certain way it presented a full short due to a break in the inner conductor shielding, very anoying and now in the trash minus the PL259 plugs. good luck. I have had bad springs do that. I just tinned some braided copper strap and attached it to both ends of the spring. Worked good, |
