Shame to see all these Ham Radio's turning to junk all because one wants to turn them into a CB radio too. Your best bet is if you find one to fix it they should fix it back to what it was built for in the first place and if you want a cb by a cb, copper has many of them. don't go killing a good Ham Radio

I didn't kill it. I didn't Mod it or had it modded. I bought it used and was apparently already modded. I bought it as it was described to me and That was its A 10 Meter Ham Radio ( Nothing was said about the 11 meter Conversion ). I didn't know about the Conversion till i got it home and hooked it up. I didn't want it to be used for 11 Meter. I have enough CBs here for 11 meter use. All i wanted to know was why am i having this problem and how can i fix it?

Donnie, I don't believe the 11 meter conversion would have caused this problem with your radio. The tune/peak thing could cause the problem if done wrong. Somebody was probably trying to get all the AM power possible and messed up the Sideband. The modulation limiter may be clipped/removed or some other swing mod added.
VR-14 is the AM modulation adjustment, VR-12 is the SSB power adjustment. If these controls don't effect the output of the radio, the limiter is probably disabled. The radio probably needs a complete alinement also to make it right. Over in the left column on this page under "Tools", the radio is listed in the modification list. Might be something there that will help you. good luck.

power supply the older 2990s had issues here.

Donnie I wasn't meaning you, sorry if you took it that way. Just so many try to turn a radio into something it don't do or really wasn't meant to do and mess up things as your seeing.
Most likely as others are saying they or whom was wanting a all in one set with the most power they could get out of it.
Again I hope it can be fix back to what it was born to be not what someone wanted to make out of it.

Thanks Scrapiron. I may take the cover off tomorrow and look and see if someone used a golden cutter in there and clipped stuff. As of the re-tuning ill have to take it to someone to have that done. I have never learned how to do that.
Thanks Dale for replying also. On AM i see about 150 watts from it and about the same on SSB. I started using a Galaxy desk power mic when i first got told about the problem so i took it off and used a stock mic and still getting the same reports. The power Supply I also not sure how to check but when i key up none of the lights dim down any. I did try to back down the wattage using the RF power control and turned down the Mic Gain down to where it was almost off and nothing changed.
Starface. I figured you wasn't but i decided to clear that up just in case of the others that wanted to post their opinions about this issue. I'm by far any kind of radio tech and don't want anyone to think i done something stupid to my radio. I wouldn't dare go into a pricey radio like this lol. I can do small work like soldering stuff back together or even replace a resister or something to that nature bur NEVER modding a radio.
THANKS FOR Y'ALL INPUT. If anyone else has an idea please share them with me cause i would like to get this radio operating like it should be. 73
