How can I change the 5 pin din mic connector in this radio to be a 4 pin cobra/uniden arrangement? I read somewhere that a tech had done this, but now I can't find the reference. Can anyone help? Thanks, Jonny Quest |

Why would you want to? Nothing wrong with a 5 pin plug & they are still available. Probably still find them at Radio Shack. It would be a shame to mess up the radio. same inside as the original Cobra 142 or President Washington. Dyslexics of the world UNTIE! No I'm not a Tech,I just know enough to be a nuisance.

It's done and working fine! I don't like radio shack mics and don't want to fool with adapters, which sometimes squeal and protrude from the front of the radio. Also, now I can use standard 4 pin mics without wiring mods to the mics, straight off the shelf. |

Radio Shack stock mics were considered the best sounding Stock type microphone you could use for just about any radio out there. It would have been a simple thing to wire up a different mic to the 5 pin connector without the need to use an adapter or modify a irreplaceable radio. sounds more like a case of wanting to use the same mic on different radios instead of a dedicated microphone for each radio.
