307 OR 181,
I was tinkering around and screwed something up.I'm sure I am not the only one who has done this.I have a galaxy DX 66, I was changing the roger beep frequency by installing a different value resistor in place of R181.The mod worked the first time. Then I wanted to make the beep even higher, so I went to the shack and bought another different value resistor and installed it.What I did was, I soldered it to the solder side of the board temporarily so as I could listen to the beep to see if that is what I wanted. It was.So, I prceded to cut the excess length off the resistor and soldered it permanantly to the board. Now the beep doesnt work at all.You can see the needle move when you unkey like it IS working, but it isnt.I reinstalled the origional resistor back in place, still nothing.I checked all of the traces on the board to see if maybe I dropped a bead of solder somewhere...Nothing.I had a DX 66 a few years back and did the exact same thing to that one.I never did get it fixed. What the heck am I doing wrong???(dont say it!STAY OUT OF IT IN THE FIRST PLACE)LOL!!!Thank you in advance...Eddie

Biged,

It worked while connected to the solder side of the board then quit when you put it on the component side. However the meter is still showing the modulation and delay as if the RB was still there? And you can't hear it?

Did you try removing the new resistor and putting the old one back in?

Yes I did.As a matter of fact, The origional resistor is in right now, on the solder side. And still nothing. The needle does move like it is working but cant here anything.

Biged,

What value resistor did you put in place to raise the beep pitch?

Did you try to replace the capacitor on the RB circuit? It is C134 which is 2.2uF cap at 16V DC.

Steve,
The value of the resistor that comes in this radio is 220k ohms.I replaced it with a 100k ohm resistor.Like I said, at first it worked fine. Then all of a sudden it stopped.I am sure it is something I did.And to answer your second question, no ,I did not mess with C134, but that was my next step. After I got the tone that I wanted, I was going to shorten the beep length. But I didnt get that far.The only thing that I can thimk of is that I might have burnt another component up by applying too much heat to the board.Would you happen to have a picture of the solder side of the board around R181 just to see if I have another component bridged onto something else that is not supposed to.The chances of you having a picture of this would be slim , but you never know. Thanks once again.Eddie

Biged,

Been looking for the schematic for the RB circuit in that radio and cannot find it anywhere. Galaxy has the schematic's for the whole radios for a price.
