The xforce 400hd recomends the x40 or x80 as a driver. i have the x80 which has a 80 watt dk and swings 280. Can the 400hd handle this or does that need to be lowerd? Im just wondering if mods need to be made or maybe the low side of the x80 will work, I dont know the dk and swing for low. Thank alot for all your heip |

with your magnum s6-80 ya said in other ;post that should be enough power by itself to drive it.heres a example 1x2,1x4,2x8 ..ect for low power cbs only [no driver] straight 4,6,8,12 ect these may need a driver OR a high power radio but NOT both dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64

ok thanks alot, i guess i messed up cause i bought the ms250 which is same as x80 because i thought i could get alot more out of the 400hd when driven with this because its a recomended driver at 240 swing where my radio will only drive it with 80 watts at very most. so what is the most you can swing into 2 2290s? |

An honest amp builder will tell you a 2x4 is a worthless amp. A 1x4 (1 2290 driving 4 2879's works very well with a low power cobra 25 or 29. The extra driver in a 2x4 is just too much. You will see more watts on a watt meter but they aren't on the frequency you are trying to talk on. You are seeing harmonics but some people just won't accept this and worship the watt meter. A 40 watt dual final will drive that box just fine and your s680 will get a little more. I use a 400hd for a driver and my 20 watt radio gets a over 400 pep out of it. |

Well i just bought the midnight special 250 with 2 2290s i just havent keyed into it yet because i was afraid my radio would be too much and according to Dale its wayyy to much... so can i not use the ms250 at all? and i havent orderd the 400hd yet cause i wanted to get this driver first, have i messed up and bought something useless or is it at all possible to use the magnum into the 250 driving the 400hd? im just hoping to salvage the situation since i have a brand new 250 just sittin here. thanks again and sorry for all the trouble |

You can turn the dead key down on your radio to run the 250 but you will have to back the mic gain way down to keep from sounding distorted. After you get the modulation down enough to sound clear your 80 watt radio will be doing about the same power as a tuned up cobra 29. It's hard to beat a cobra or uniden if you want to use an amp. When you back the deadkey down on exports you have to back the modulation off too or they sound bad...at least all of mine did. If you want to use the s680 I would sell the 250 and use it to drive a 4 pill or just loaf a 6 pill. If you want to use the 250 and don't mind switching radios a cobra or uniden, the 250 and an 8 pill would make a nice combo. The smallest thing I would drive with that 250 is an 8 pill. You could drive a 6 pill with it but either way I would never put an 80 watt radio behind a 2 pill. |

moonraker hit the nail right on the head. one other thing that might work is the new magnum raptor it has a switch to turn down the pep to around 25 watts. without turning down mic gain.i think that radio would work ok with a 2 pill.and will have most of the same features as the s6-80. dale/a.k.a.hotrod cef426 cvc#64
