Most stereo interference actually enters via the speaker cabling or by front-end overload. If the stereo has antenna inputs for AM and FM a notch filter for just those bands at the input may help, but most front-end overload is due to poor shielding on the stereo. Speaker lead input can usually be cured using shielded speaker leads, by wounding them into a common mode choke. I don't advise using a capacitive filer on speakers as this can cause some steroes to go into hypersonic oscillation and self-destruct. So now some questions - what brand and type of AM/FM radio? if it is a cheap one you are probably out of luck, but if it is a name brand (Pioneer, Philips etc) you may be able to get information from them on how to protect the stereo better. Trust me, they have gone thru this before and have the information. John - the low pass will only help on FM, and not at all if it is speakerl ead pick up. Fraight Train 28, back in 1973, I lived in apartments in Denver. Had my Antenna Specialists super mag mounted on push up pole and due to height of third floor and pole, I was up in air about 60 feet I guess. Anyway, my Lafayette comstat 25 B would come across my neighbors stereo system and he had a good one to. If he was listening to his reel to reel, that is when it came across, not when listening to am/fm. Go figure. It would not record my signal, but it would come across if he had it on tape mode.
