Ok I am going to be building a two tube contiguous duty cycle tubed HF amp in the 600 watt continuous for AM and about 900-1000 watt's on SSB. I am trying to decide if I should use rather conventional style transformer's that are used int he American line of tubed Amps of if I should follow the European amp builder's lead and go with toroidal transformer. Cost is slightly higher for toroidal style transformer. It does though open up more packaging idea's with regard to the enclouser. I have not decided if I am going to build the power supply in a seperate box from the Amp. I might because then I could use one power supply for other projects. It would reduce the packaging size to make rack mounting easier. SO any pro's or cons to either transformer style??? Oh and I will be coping other peoples proven designs not my own. |
