I picked up a power supply this weekend at an action. It was in a box with some light fixtures still in its box, cord still folded with the factory twist tie.
When I got it home I checked output and it was at 17 VDC.
This is a 4 amp continuous with 7 amp surge.
I checked inside and there are no adjustments to be made.
What is the most effective way to reduce the output to say 14 vdc? |

Good Saturday morning Sitm. If my dad were still with us, I could call him and have you an answer immediately. I never did learn the elctricity and all like he did. He was one of the old timers that could do everything on the old radios and tv's and all kind of electrical stuff.
Hang in there, someone on here will know the answer.

I am sure that eventually I will figure it out. No harm though, I paid $1.00 at the auction for the box. I have already installed the motion light that was new in the box so no loss of money. It was in a box of things and they sold the box together. I knew the power supply was in it, but when they held up the supply the guy just said there was a motion light and other electrical "stuff". No one put bid in so I won the bid with one crisp dollar bill. |

Sounds like the regulator circuit is not working.
you need the voltage going into the regulator a few volts higher than the desired output for good regulation.
What model supply?
