I need guidance on guy wires. I have a fifty foot push up pole, very very heavy. It has the ring at each ten foot section to hook up the guy wires. I want to attach the pole at one corner of my house. I can hook guy wires to two different locations on the roof. Then I run into trouble. Where can I take the other two sets of guy wires? If I go down to the ground, anyone walking in my back yard would have to walk right through them. I have fence posts that I could mount to, but again same problem is there with people trying to walk by to get into the back yard. I do have one big tree that I could go basically straight across with each wire in a lateral position, but that is all. Would still need idea on where to mount other than going to ground for the fourth set of guy wires. I want to get my NEW 6 year old Super Scanner mounted and start talking. Also, any positive or negative thoughts regarding mounting the one set to the big tree. So any ideas? As always, safety in number one priority!! Thanks. Keith in Atlanta CEF 150 |

Last telescoping pole I had the company recomend 4 guy wires at each section 20 foot out from the center of the pole in 4 directions. It was a 40 foot Rohn. Hope this helps. Thats my next project finding me another pole or building me one about 40 foot in height. |

How about an aerial photo or detailed diagram of the lot so we can be of serious help? Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998

Keith, The Army Corp of Engineers says 3 guys per section at 120 degrees apart. I run 2 to the house to guy brackets and the third in the yard to a 6' trailor anchor screwed 5' into the ground. It has held up to at least 3 hurricanes. Wally/Pressman/KC4ZWM

My personal chocie is for free-standing towers. Heck, even 40 feet of Rohn 55 can be free standing if you don't put a huge beam on top. 40 feet of tower + 20 foot tall antenna = 60 feet, which happens to be the FCC limit for part 95 CB stations. More 'math' for you: No guy wires = happy wife. Also, no guy wires = sad birds and clean cars. Your radio 'Mythbuster' since 1998
