I was considering getting a Palomar 775 mobile amp. I have an '03 Durango with a stock 136 amp alt. in it. and a wilson 1K and a Galaxy 99. The 775 draws 64 amps. Would I need to upgrade the stock alternator to a 160 amp? and the biggest inline fuse I can find is a 60 amp fuse and fuse holder. Will that be sufficient enough of a fuse?
I currently have my Galaxy 99 wired to chassis ground and the (+) on the batt. and plan on doing the same to the amp as well. I'm just not sure if I should get the 8 or 10 gauge wire for the amp. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

If your going to draw 60-70 amps I would use 6 or 4 gauge wire. I would also run a 4 gauge ground from your battery to the chassis. Your antenna will thank you. Check car audio shops. They usually carry bulk wire, along w/fuse holders. You should have a fuse right behind the amp, and one right at the battery, same goes for your radio. Fire in the truck would ruin your whole day. May I persuade you to consider a Texas Star 667 over the Palomar? The Palomar of today is not the one of yesterday. It's all made off shore. No thermal or SWR protection. Plus Texas Star has great customer service. They're made by the same company that makes Galaxy radio's. Just my &.02. Let me know how it all works out. Oh, and yes your alternator will do the job.
