Hi,Im looking for help in getting an old commtel 444 (sigma 4 clone but with 4 radials) up and running.
Ive cleaned it all up and reasembled it as it was years ago before it was given to me, all the screws and bolts are in the same holes giving a total radiator length of 30ft 3 and a 1/2 inches.

I dont know the origonal radial lengths as the cage was disasembled before I got it and they dont have any markings on them, do the radial lengths make a difference to the tunning of this antenna? they are set to full length at pressent.

As it is the swr via the gamma match will not go below 2.5:1 at 27.000Mhz and goes just over 3:1 at 28mhz and 26mhz.
Im not lucky enough to own an antenna analiser so any advice or dimensions to get it to a closer match for the CB band would greatly help.

All the section joints have been checked with a multimeter and all have good clean connections.

Its OK lads Ive done it, lowered the radial cage down about 13inches and the SWR dropped down to 1.4:1, seems to be a very noisy antenna on RX and not very broadbanded compared to my reworked pre-tuned (no more silly rings) A-99 which is now very quiet and SWR of 1.1:1 from 28.500Mhz down to 26.500Mhz.
