Purchased a small pride 100 from a gentleman the other day and the first thing that I noticed is that the power cord was replaced with a cord with two black wires (no fuse in line). Of course this is concerning as I told this gentleman that I would be replacing that immediately. I trust the seller, still do and when I got back to my QTH I did what I always do with new equipment. I hooked up the amp with no power in line to check the system out. I keyed up on the amp (WITH NO POWER OR POWER CORD HOOK UP) with 1.5 watt in and there was only .06 watts on meter. (digital meter) Then turned power up to 4 watts dead key and only received a .95 watt on meter. with 8 watts in only 1.12 watts on meter. So, needless to say I did not use the amp, called owner (nice guy, very) he returned my check and told me to keep the amp. He called the guy that he had loaned it to and was told ("well sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't") So what is wrong with this amp, I opened it up and it is very very clean inside the owner was using it as I was driving to his house but was putting more than a 2 watts dead key, I suspect maybe four or five. So, I put power to it with about six in and it delivered about 90 out on a two second dead key. (of course the dead key is too high, hence the question). I have unhooked the amp and not used it since awaiting some type of answer to the question as have I also received my check in the mail from the gentleman that I purchased it from. 73 |

Had the amp worked on my a tech in Lincoln, seems that someone had hooked it up "backwards". $27.35 repair. |
