What Mosfet finals are in the new RCI 2950dx? And how are they holding up compared to the old
2SC-2312's. So the question is reliability with the new Mosfet Finals in the 2950dx. Any other feedback, good or bad about this radio would be great. I'm thinking of getting one soon from Copper and need more information from other owners who have been using this radio.

Thanks..

Hi, I got one from copper about a month ago and it's performed great, no problems and a real joy to use.

Thanks for the positive input; I’m glad you’re satisfied with your new 2950dx and how it performs. I’m mainly concerned about long term with the new Mosfit finals in this unit and how the radio is holding up in general. I do understand if you turn up any radio to the max the life expediency could be short. But what I’m hoping is if the 2950dx can handle a slight adjustment increase in modulation and power without compromising its longevity. Ak3383 is your radio for the most part stock out of the box with just the channel mod?

Yes it's stock, just the channels and pots adjusted. It does the rated watts and talking AM heavily it doesn't get hot. The heat sinks just get warm.

Personally I would NOT turn anything up.

Remember you would have to increase the Output power by 4 times to even make a single S-Unit difference to the person you are talking to.

Mosfet Final radio's tend to give you longer more reliiable life in any radio and allows it to have maximum outpit power without peaking them to the max and over driving the finals.

A good antenna and proper grounding can help you far more than over peaking a radio and thereby shorting the radio's life.

Also please remember that this is the WORST radio condition's / solar cycle I can remember in the last 10-15 years for talking DX.

Hope this help's,

Thank you tech 808 for the helpful advice about not making any adjustment increases, because it would be really unnecessary.

Your explanation was quite reasonable because I wasn’t aware that the new mosfet’s now being used in the new Ranger units gave longer and more reliable service over the former NPN Transistors used.

I have not owned a radio with Mosfet being used as the Final, so in my earlier post I asked that question and I’m glad you cleared that up for me. As far as turning up the power and modulation I meant in general terms vs. the older 2950dx with the 2sc2312’s. A coworker I work with has one of the older units peaked up with some kind of splattering swing kit installed from a truck stop and I am amazed still after 5yrs it’s working. So if the old unit could handle that kind of abuse, I feel more confident now reading your post that the new dx model should perform great right out of the box.

When I purchase one I primarily tend to use it on 10 meters hopefully when propagation improves and the band opens up.

It’s unfortunate that know one else here on the form that owns a 2950dx mosfet version couldn’t ring in and give me there experience using this radio. As far as the solar cycle, the late 70’s seemed to be the best as I remember for DX.

Thanks Lon for your response and have a good day.

I thought all the new? 2950dx radios had Mosfet Finals. I just got one from Copper and it has 2 1969's in it. Hum... Maybe someone can explain this.
