07 Honda accord is the vehicle, The radio is a Cobra 25 w/ a rfx 75 high output addon amp. radio does about 100 watts. I have two problems. 1st the radio bleeds through the car stereo. would a choke on the antenna wire at the back of the car stereo stop this problem. also the stereo antenna I believe is in the rear window. so I am guessing this antenna is picking up my signal. If I turn off the stereo it still bleeds through. any suggestions are appreciated. 2nd I picked up a bubba mount to mount the radio behind the center console on the hump(I guess above the driveshaft) in the backseat. I used 4 longer screws to secure it. the radio was working well with good swr s before i put it in the mount but when I was securing it to this mount, when I insert the side mount screw the second it touches the female (screwhole) the radio goes silent with just a humming noise. It is the same sound a radio makes when you are having mirror mount problems on a big truck or the plastic stud washers are not installed. there is no static or white noise. As soon as I unscrew the metal 5mm mount knob and contact from the metal in the female screwhole is canceled it works properly. Does the mount need to be grounded and if so why?I placed a piece of grond strap to the mount and held it in my hand for a make shift ground to see if it stoped the problem but it did not. I thought maybe the screws that I used to mount the mount to the hump have something to do with it. could they be touching something or not touching something below the carpet. the mount seemed secure but it would move back and forth and I am not positive the screws were making solid contact with the metal frame beneath the carpets surface. I had a lil will mag mount antenna on the roof hooked up to it. I was powering it through a cig lighter plug. I did not go straight to the battery for power because my meter showed it was putting out the normal amount of power that it should be with just the cig adapter and good swr's. I am a trucker and enjoy this hobby but am always having some sort of new problem. It can be frustrating. I like to have a cb in every vehicle I drive and refuse to give up on this install. I just bought this car and plan to have it for a while so any help is greatly appreciated. |

IF you could find a way to do it put on the am/fm radio a BANDREJECT filter tuned to 27 mhz might work otherwies get more space between the cb and radio antenna. Ferite chokes on the radio coax might help too I know running 100 watts on 10 meters kills my car radio too .... |

I'll pick up some chokes at radio shack today and give that a shot. |

1) Get it off of the cigarette lighter circuit. Not only for the health of the car, but also for the radios protection. 2) Go to a properly grounded antenna. Mag mounts are barely OK at low power levels, but I'd never use one on any radio above 25w (and even then under protest). 3) Check out the three articles on Installing in a Mobile, the third part dealing with power should be posted soon. 4) Follow Bruce's advise on chokes. I should add I run a 100w HF radio in my car usng the technics I outline and (so far) have not had any issues with the radio or the car. 2) 'Go to a properly grounded antenna. Mag mounts are barely OK at low power levels, but I'd never use one on any radio above 25w (and even then under protest).'-i dunno, i seem to do alright with a magnet mount antenna . and more then 25 watts . slightly more then 25 watts & . as for 'badgers issue with RF from the radio contaminating the FM stereo....i can DEAD KEY 100 watts & HEAR NO INTERFERENCE on the stereo, once the PEP approaches 250 watts do i begin to get talkback-like overload through the speakers. that is with the stock stereo & aftermarket speakers in a '99 dodge durango. i had a '98 durango with alpine HP stereo, alpine amp & speakers that was worse then my durango. one time changing speakers, and testing with a 100' coil of 10 guage speaker wire, i noticed almost NO overload through the speakers. using no ferrite cores, i guess the 100' of wire acted as a sufficient choke to moderate the problem. |
