looking to find out where to tap in for a supertalk install on a grant xl. I have brought the modulation to about 90 percent, swaped a couple diodes to increase power output a bit, and not muck else. radio gets out good, but want it to be REALY good. |

Sharpshooter007, With the Grant XL I wouls personally suggest/recommend using the DM-452 Hand Mike. Sounds better than a Super Talk mod and has GREAT LOUD/CLEAR AUDIO! I personally use it on my Uniden Grant and think it is far better & has CLEARER & LOUDER AUDIO than any super talk / modulation kit modification that I have found / heard / used in the last 20+ years. Copper Part #E01-06013 DM 452 SuperStar Power Mic [E01-06013] $17.95 Echo Microphone, wired 5 Pin Cobra Uniden, Features Astatic Style mic cord. Sensitivity: -42 dB at 1,000 Hz (at Maximum V.R. and at Minimum Echo Volume V.R.) Impedance: 3 Kohm and less at 100 Hz (at V.R. max) Frequency Response: 150-3,500 Hz Echo Frequency Response: 200-3,000 Hz Battery: DC 9V (006P) Mike Cartridge: ECM Type Type: Omni Directional electret condenser type. Outside Slide control Controls the total amount of echo. Dual Inside controls control the amount of Microphone Amplification and Echo Repeat Speed. Just Plug & Play. This is just my personal opinion after hearing it on the air and using it and getting GOOD/GREAT audio report's that I have received over the years from other CEF radio club member's on the air. Hope this help's, Lon~Tech808 N9CEF CEF#808~CVC#002 Radio Enthusiast!

Thank you very much for the info. I like this radio and don't want to mess it up. one more question if I may. Seeing that I am new to radios with ssb... is it normal while on usb or lsb that the power meter does not deflect while keyed up untill you speak into the mike? as an example... on am, I key up and the meter shows tx output. When I switch to usb, needle dosn't move untill I speak. I know this is a silly question, but I just want to make sure I didn't mess up the radio. |

perfectly normal. there is no carrier, or dead key. you will not see any meter movement until there is modulation, or some kind of noise. |
