Currently I am studying for the Extra and I find it way more difficult than the Technician or the General (in particular calculating phase, using time constants to determine caps charge and discharge times, and all the formulas for the math.) Is there any websites that can be used as a comprehensive tutorial for the Extra exam instead of my searching each topic in a piecemeal manner? Joe |

I agree with Bruce about the book, but also want to say congratulations,as it sounds like you are REALLY trying to learn and not just memorise the answers. Like Bruce I did not need the book for the exams, but then started learning electronics at age 10, and was first licensed 3 years later (As a VK Call). IN 2000 I sat for my license here, and with the help of my previous call and 30 years working in the trade, I did Novice to Extra in one day. Joey feel free to email any time for anything you are not sure of, also remember I sit on the Voice Chat Ch 5 Fridays from 1pm Pacific Time to around 4PM Pacific Time to answer any questions Simon Tech237 N7AUS . Thanks, Bruce. I dug out my old E Mag text (I have an EE degree) and it is starting to come back to me. |

Simon, Thanks. Yeah, I don't want to study (memorize) just for the test; I would like to actually learn something. As I said, its coming back to me slowly. I appreciate your offer, I am going to register for voice chat and take you up on it. I noticed your call sign is 1-by-3, vanity? |

Yep sure is. My original call here was KD7IEB. My wife got me the Vanity call two years ago for my birthday. I guess you can see the reason for it -lol. She also applied for N0MIS, but somebody else already had that one. Simon Tech237 N7AUS . I thought he said, "there was no rust for the wicked, and I own an MGB"

Yep extra is tough. Makes you think. I tried going extra when I got general and was really close. That's all the examiner could tell me. I brushed up and did a little study and took it again the next week and blew it away with 100%. You will get it, just takes time. |

Yeah I happen to be taken the Tech, General and Extra at one sitting or maybe three since I don't know how the VE's handle multiple test taken in one visit. The tech. I did taken on line flash cards and liked knew all the math calculating,) I have a EE degree, but also a masters in computer science - that is my current job. But i forgot a bit of the EE stuff, had to review. like wise with the general both test take 4 ~ 6 min and I always score in the 90's.. The tech took me about 12 hours of prep and the general 18~20. It's been a week and I have conquered all the formulas needed e.g. half power band width, polar and rectangular co-ordinates, calculating resonant frequency from tank circuit of Zc and ZL and all that good stuff, I probably could memory it, but I think it is good to learn for later experimentation modifications and repair. Now it is FCC rules (I assume that is available on the FCC site) e.g., The bandwidth for various modes and frequencies, distance between signal for best noninterference and all that good stuff. I might download the FCC rules and focus on the real obscure stuff like the frequencies for moon bounce, or what frequency is use for satellite transmission. Thanks, for all the encouragement; I appreciated it from yo all. Be good. I am good for the Tech and General, but I wonder how long it will be to consistently 90 or about on the Extra. Wish me luck. 73, Joe AKA Miggs (My last name is Miglino) P.S. Thx All again |

JM, I am a VE and it's no problem to take the Tech, General and Extra at one sitting. We had it happen 2 months in a row and pass. Go for it! |

Joey, You will only have to pay the $15 once and that will cover all of the test's that you will take at that testing session. If you have to go back at a later Date / Testing Session should you not pass a test then you will have to pay again. Take them ALL and GOOD LUCK! Lon~Tech808 N9CEF CEF#808~CVC#002 Radio Enthusiast!

To the VE's here: I'm wondering- the advanced used to be the really hard written, with the extra written easier with the caveat of the 20WPM code. How is the extra without code compared to the old days? |

At our VE Settings it's $14.00 If you fail we give you a second try. If you pass you may try for the next higher class at no extra charge. Ironmike I'm not sure of the old days, but Practice makes prefect. Good Luck. George/Starface/KI4NBE CEF 476 CVC 014 HAM 181 SOUTHEAST CEF NET CONTROL
